Greensboro, NC (02/22/24) – The Greensboro Symphony Orchestra (GSO) is proud to announce its 46th annual Series of Education Concerts, scheduled to take place at the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts from March 19th through March 22nd. This beloved tradition promises to entertain and educate over 20,000 enthusiastic 3rd, 4th, and 7th grade students from Guilford, Rockingham, and Randolph counties in an immersive musical experience.

Under the baton of Principal Guest Conductor Evan Feldman, each year the GSO Education Concerts captivate young audiences with a dynamic blend of energetic performances, engaging multimedia elements, and special surprises. This year’s program features a diverse lineup of musical styles, including NC hip-hop artist Joshua “Rowdy” Rowsey, film music, and compositions by modern and diverse composers such as Kevin Day, Molly Joyce, and Armando Bayolo, among others. Audiences will also be treated to orchestral classics – all performed by the talented musicians of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra!

Partnered with GSO for this year’s Education Concerts is the non-profit organization Bikes for Kids. Bikes for Kids is dedicated to providing bicycles to children in need, promoting physical activity, and fostering a love of learning. Because of Bikes for Kids, 1,600 Title-1 third graders in 25 Guilford County Schools receive a bike. Each student attending the Education Concerts has received a book titled “Chocolate Cake & Ice Cream, Kindness & Happiness” by Robert Krumroy, courtesy of Bikes for Kids. The book combines lessons on kindness with elements of music education and have been incorporated into the curriculum for months leading up to the concerts, ensuring that students are prepared and engaged.

The children will also be delighted by a special guest appearance from Grimsley High School Senior Declan Oberlies, who will showcase his talent on a unicycle alongside the GSO. This unique performance promises to add an extra element of excitement and surprise to the concerts.

The Greensboro Symphony Orchestra extends its gratitude to all sponsors, partners, and supporters who make these Education Concerts possible, including Bikes for Kids, Simply Southern, Lincoln Financial Foundation, The Greensboro Symphony Guild, Crescent Rotary Club, Blum Construction, and Shamrock Environmental Corporation.
